We have set the dates and times for Referee Training in Region 57 for Fall 2015.  Once again, it will be a combination of Online and In-Person training.

The following are the steps that interested new Referees need to go through in order to become Referees:

2)  Go to and use your new AYSO ID number to take the online Safe Haven class.  This is mandatory for all Volunteers.

3)  Also at, take the Basic Referee Training class.  This online class needs to be completed prior to taking the In-Person Referee Training Class.

4)  Once you have completed Steps 1 through 3 above, you need to take the In-Person Referee Training Class.  This year, Region 57 is offering 3 opportunities to take the In-Person class, as follows:
     a)  Tuesday September 1, 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Oasis Senior Center, 801 Narcissus Ave., Corona del Mar.
     b)  Thursday September 10, 6:00 to 9:00 PM also at Oasis Senior Center, 801 Narcissus Ave., Corona del Mar.
     c)  Sunday September 13, 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM at Community Youth Center, 3000 5th Ave., Corona del Mar. Please note this location is different than the 1st two meetings and different than previous years.

After completing Steps 1 through 4 above, you will be Certified to referee any Region 57 game.  Refereeing in AYSO is a lot of fun and you sign up for the games that you want to referee - they are not assigned to you.  And you are helping your children!

Here are the answers to a few questions that normally come up:
  - You need only to attend One of the In-Person classes.
  - If you already competed the Referee Training program in a previous year, you do not need to re-take Referee Training.  You do, however, need to register as a Volunteer every year.
  - If you are already a U8 Official, you need to take the entire Referee Training online and in-person classes.  We no longer offer the U8 to Regional Referee class.
  - Your cost is $0, except for your footwear and a stop watch.
  - These are the only opportunities to take AYSO Referee Training in Region 57.  There likely will be training in other nearby regions on different dates, and we will do our best to make you aware of them.

Please send me an e-mail as to which In-Person class you plan to attend, just so I have a rough head count.  Also, if you have any additional questions about being an AYSO Referee, or about the process, please e-mail me.
We in Region 57 thank you all on behalf of the kids and we look forward again to training the new Referees!

ATTENTION AYSO PARENTS:  Are you interested in becoming an AYSO Referee in Region 57/Corona del Mar?  If you are, Thank You!  Region 57 has over 1,500 children registered to play AYSO Soccer for Fall 2014, and each of their games needs a Referee (especially if your child is in age division U8 or older).  All AYSO Referees are Volunteers, and so on behalf of the Board of Directors and the Children of Region 57, thank you for your willingness to volunteer to be a Referee!

The following is a step-by-step set of instructions for how you can become a Referee.  These are all done in this order:

1)  Go to  New volunteers, Click the "I am new to AYSO and Want to Volunteer" button.  This will take you through the Volunteer Form, which is completed online.  Once completed, you will receive your AYSO ID Number.  Please retain this number because you will need it for the following steps.

2)  Go to  Use your AYSO ID number to take both the Online Safe Haven training, and the Online Referee Training.  You need to complete both of these training modules in their entirety, although you can do it at your own pace and you can repeat sections as much as you want.

3)  Attend one of the In-Person Companion Training Sessions.   You can attend at any one of the following dates and times:

    a) Oasis Senior Center - Thursday August 28 at 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
    b)  Oasis Senior Center - Thursday September 4 at 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
    c)  Oasis Senior Center - Sunday September 7 at 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM.
The In-Person session is a review of what was covered in the On Line class, so it is important to have watched all of the On Line material prior to taking the In Person class.

Please send me an e-mail at as to which In Person session you plan to attend, so I can have a head count.  Also, use the same e-mail if you have any questions about the training or the process.

Thank you again, and enjoy your Referee Training!
