Referee training is a combination of Online and In-Person training.

The following are the steps that interested new Referees need to go through in order to become Referees:

1) Go to and register as a volunteer for the 2015-2016 year. If you are a new volunteer to Region 57, email a copy of your driver's license to for ID verification.

2)  Go to and use your AYSO ID number to take the online Safe Haven class.  This is mandatory for all Volunteers.

3)  Also at, take the Basic Referee Training class.  This online class needs to be completed prior to taking the In-Person Referee Training Class.

4)  Once you have completed Steps 1 through 3 above, you need to take the In-Person Referee Training Class.  Available course can be found after logging into To find courses do the following:

* log into

* click on "my profile", the "course signup" in the drop down menu

* enter "CA" , "Section 11",  "Area Q" and "Basic Referee Online Companion Course" This course is the in-person portion of the referee training. The online portion can be found by following the instructions above in #3

* course offerings will come up and you can register here for the course

After completing Steps 1 through 4 above, you will be Certified to referee any Region 57 game.  Refereeing in AYSO is a lot of fun and you sign up for the games that you want to referee - they are not assigned to you.  And you are helping your children!

Here are the answers to a few questions that normally come up:
  - You need only to attend One of the In-Person classes.
  - If you already competed the Referee Training program in a previous year, you do not need to re-take Referee Training.  You do, however, need to register as a Volunteer every year.
  - If you are already a U8 Official, you need to take the entire Referee Training online and in-person classes.  We no longer offer the U8 to Regional Referee class.
  - Your cost is $0, except for your footwear and a stop watch. If you take the referee course out of the Region and are charged, please submit receipt to the Region and you will be reimbursed.

If you have any additional questions about being an AYSO Referee, or about the process, please e-mail me, John Mitchell at
We in Region 57 thank you all on behalf of the kids and we look forward again to training the new Referees!
