AYSO 57 is an all volunteer organization. This means that our board members, coaches and referees are all volunteers. By AYSO National rules, teams cannot have hired coaches, trainers or referees. It can be a challenge to get enough volunteers, but is also an opportunity to make our program a wonderful community effort. Each family will be asked to fulfill one (1) volunteer job. If you cannot commit to a time consuming job like those mentioned above, there are other opportunities such as field clean-up after one of your child’s games or help at picture day.

09.11.08 Congratulations to the AYSO Region 57 BU10 Green Tigers for winning the California State Championship!

The Green Tigers, coached by Bruno Campos, won the Region, Mayor's Cup, and Area Q Tournaments. After their runners-up finish in the Section 11 Tournament, they were invited as the wild card team to face the three California Section champions in the California State Championship. The Championship was held in Bakersfield and the Green Tigers beat a tough LA Central team to advance to the finals against the Ladera Ranch team that bested them in the Section Finals. After falling behind by 2 goals the Green Tigers evened the score in the second half and then scored the winning goal in the first overtime period.

The championship run was a great experience for the team and their families. The playoffs also brought visibility to Region 57 as the Green Tigers and the Green Geckos reached the Mayor's Cup and the Area Q finals.

It just goes to show that in AYSO anything is possible, especially in Corona Del Mar.

09.01.08 Congratulations to Ali Sabouni!
Please join us in congratulating Ali Sabouni, AYSO 57's coach administrator, who just passed the National Coach exam. This is the highest level of coaching one can achieve in AYSO, and it doesn’t come easy. It is a 3-4 day resident course, 8am – 10 pm, with classes, actual coaching situations, and playing. It is passed by only a few people nationwide each year, and includes a very difficult final exam, as well as having to pass the National Referee exam. Ali not only passed, but the word that came to me from the National Coaching Commission is that Ali is one of the best they’ve ever had.

Congratulations, Ali! We are all very proud of you!

11.26.07 Region 57 Completes Lincoln 3 Field Lighting in time for Mayor's Cup competition
The installation of additional field lighting at the Lincoln Athletic Center is complete! Region 57 will officially donate the lighting in a ribbon-cutting ceremony November 29, 2007 at 5:30 PM, followed by the first night game on Lincoln 3, part of the 1st Annual Mayor's Cup competition. The project was completed in record time through the cooperation of the City, NMUSD, and Lincoln Elementary School. Safety and field conditions were maintained by using unique construction techniques including pre-fab components and 2000 feet of underground boring that eliminated open trenches. The high tech lighting will use 40% less energy, is laser-aimed to reduce light spill on the neighborhood, and is computer controlled by the City so it can be shut off remotely.

Jeff Lyon, veteran Field Supervisor of ACE Electric directs a light pole on to its base as Chris Sykes learns the technique under the watchful eye of NMUSD and DSA Inspector Mike Shotwell.

Please click here to read the Daily Pilot front page coverage of lighting donation, dedication on Thursday, Nov 29 5:30 PM.
Please click here to read the Daily Pilot article on how it all started.

11.07.07 VIP Program in the News!
Click here for a great article in The Daily Pilot about AYSO's newest program!

The program VIP stands for Very Important Player. The VIP league is a program that allows for differently-abled and special needs players to be able to participate in a fun team sport without having the pressure of having to win and be really good. Each player would have 2-3 buddies, who run or walk with the player, direct the player on the field, and help the player to kick the ball. There are two to three buddies so that in the event that one can’t be there, another one can, and the special needs player won’t have to keep dealing with unfamiliar faces.
