INFORMATION

Dear Players and Parents,

Happy Holidays! I hope that players, parents and coaches had a fun, exciting fall soccer season. And if you are feeling sad that it is over so quick, I have great news! AYSO has a spring soccer season, which will get started in mid-February! Spring soccer is great for players who enjoy the game. The spring season gives new coaches a chance to gain some experience and offers veteran coaches the opportunity to try different techniques in a non-stressful environment.

Spring season is also designed for parents, who enjoy supporting their young players in a fun sport. Spring soccer offers two levels of competition for players ages 6 through 16 as of 7-31-02.

1. Recreational Teams Spring Season is an opportunity for all players who want to play recreational soccer without the stress of points and playoffs. These teams normally practice once a week. Scores are not kept during the games. The purpose of recreational teams is to offer a fun, positive soccer experience for the players, and to facilitate the learning of new skills.

2. Tournament Teams Spring Season also provides an opportunity for high caliber players to participate in tournaments and compete with players in other areas. These teams normally practice twice a week and play competitive games (scores will be kept). Tournament teams are designed for All Star, or APP caliber players.

Both Recreational and Tournament teams will play teams of similar caliber in neighboring cities (such as Newport Beach (other side of the bay), Tustin, Costa Mesa, and Irvine). Spring Season is coach driven, which means that a coach may form a complete team and bring that team into the spring season. You may select a neighborhood team or any other combination of players of that age bracket. One rule, however, is that Recreational Teams may not include more than 3 Gold All Star players on their team.

This year you may register for spring season in one of two ways. One, you may register on-line using our web site: www.ayso57.org beginning January 15th. Two, there will be an in-person registration for the Spring Season at Lincoln Elementary School at the end of January (see our web site for more information). AYSO spring season games begin in March and end in May (one week prior to Memorial Day). The cost is $60.00 per player.

Coaches that are interested in forming teams please contact our Spring Coordinator, Jon Kottle at Springcoordinator@ayso57.org. If you have any questions, please send me an e-mail at Regionalcommissioner@ayso57.org.

Thank you,

Marce Almaraz
Region 57 Commissioner
